Technology in Education

While we might believe that technology in schools is still fairly new, we must think back to when technology started appearing in schools and what that looked like. At first, there was the abacus, a tool used to teach mathematics, then as things moved forward we got the calculator, then the typewriter, followed by the electric typewriter, and then computer labs filled with computers where many of us remember learning how to use the new technology.

Now every student in MSAD 75 from grade 5 to grade 12 has a laptop assigned to them. While 5th and 6th grade may not take their laptops home, the laptops are assigned to the student and only that student is allowed to use the laptop.

Times have changed, and we must change with them. The purpose of technology in schools is no longer just to teach students the mechanics of how to use a computer, but to help prepare students for the world outside the walls of education. Our approach to technology within MSAD 75 is to help teach students how to be good digital citizens.
